The Yahama Education System is a piano learning and development tool that comes standard with many of the portable keyboard models. The Yamaha Education System (YES, for short) is unique to Yamaha pianos and offers a learning suite unlike any offered by other keyboard brands.

The YES trains new keyboardists/pianists in valuable musical skills like chords and chord recognition, note recognition, timing, and tempo.

There are three different versions of the YES which are found on different keyboard models that were released at different points in time.

The first version, YES 1, is available on the PSR-225, the PSR 240, the PSR 270 and the PSR 340 and comes with three different features.

  1. The first feature is the chord dictionary that lets the user select a chord name on the right side of the keyboard and then select the chord type in the middle of the keyboard. Once the chord is selected, the individual notes of that chord are displayed on the LCD screen both on the musical staff on the key display, so the user knows exactly what notes/keys must be played to hit a certain chord. When the chord is played on the left, or lower, side of the keyboard, the correct chord will be identified by a confirmation sound as it is played correctly.
  2. The second feature is called ‘Smart Chord’ in which the user chooses a certain key signature to play with the left hand by selecting only one note. The Smart Chord feature then plays the entire chord based on the key signature selected.
  3. The ‘EZ Chord’ feature is the third and final feature of the YES. The EZ chord allows the user to program a certain chord progression or pattern into the editor and then can play back that chord progression. This is great for people that want to play the chords in the background while they melody in the foreground.
