Yamaha YPT-320 Review

The YPT 320 is Yahama’s ugrade in the YPT line of portable keyboards. It is a step ahead of the YPT-210 and is going to cost a little bit more ($160-170). UPDATE: If you go to Musician’s Friend, it’s sold for $149.99 and they are offering free shipping. A great deal right now for how cool this model is. Here’s the link to Musician’s Friend:

The keyboard has all the functionality of the 210 including dual speakers, touch sensitivity, the Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.), sound effects kit, and the portable grand kit.

The YPT-320 ups the ante and depending on your needs and wants in a keyboard, you may consider choosing this one over the 210 for a few of its unique features that the 210 just doesn’t have. The 320 comes with more voices than the 210: 482 vs 375 on the 210. As far as keys and polyphony, the 320 is equal to the 210 with 61 total keys and 32 polyphony.

When I was shopping for a basic keyboard I was trying to decide between the 210 and 320. I ended up buying the 210 because I didn’t feel like I need the extra keyboard voices as I usually only use the Portable Grand feature. If you want the extra versatility, I would give the 320 a go, otherwise, as far as sounds and voices, the YPT-210 is probably enough to meet your needs.

The YPT-320 does have one pretty cool feature though that the 210 does not: it allows you to record songs that you play. The cool thing about this is that you can play over it as well. So feasibly, you could record a part on your left hand and then practice with your right, and vice-versa. It’s also great to record your playing and then hear it back for your own criticism or enjoyment.

The 320 still offers the Yamaha Education Suite, a feature that I think is a great tool for beginning pianists and keyboardists that other brands just don’t feature.

The YPT-320 comes with headphone, MIDI out, sustain and DC connectivity. I also think the 320 is more aesthetic and professional looking than some of the other 61-key models that Yamaha has come out with.

The YPT-320 sells for $200 in stores but is available at Musician’s Friend for only $149.99. The other great thing? Musician’s Friend ships for free on orders over $99. Read more about the YPT-320 here:

Personally, i’d go with the 320, it’s best to have the extra features in case you need them down the track.

I have a lot of fun with the voices when I’m playing something like Christmas carols. This is a great portable keyboard with a decent sound. I also strongly recommend the optional sustain pedal.

Question about the Yamaha YPT-320.. does it allow you to play a note softly and loudly (Depending on how to hard or soft you press down on the key)? So, would I be able to play soft songs vs. loud songs?
