The Yamaha YPT-300 is a keyboard that ranks in between the YPT-210 and the YPT-320. The price of the YPT-300 is also between the 210 and the 320. The 210 is about $100 and the 320 is about $170, and the YPT-300 falls right in between at around $150. And in keyboards (and any consumer item in general) you get what you pay for, so your going to get all of the functionality of the YPT-210, but not quite the amount of features inherent in the YPT-320.
The features that it shares with the 210 and the 320 are the Portable Grand Function, a variety of sounds and voices and an LCD display. However unlike the 210, the YPT-300 has many more voices (482 compared to 375) and has a backlit display. Because Yamaha keyboards show you which notes you are playing on the Grand and Bass staff (which is a great feature in my opinion), it makes telling what notes you are playing much easier if you are just starting to learn to read music.
The YPT-300 lets you record songs that you play, which is great if you want to record one hand and practice the other alongside your recorded track. It is also handy for listening to what you have been practicing so you and other can critique or enjoy it.
If you have ever played an acoustic piano, you will like the YPT-300 because it has a “touch-feature”, that lets the user determine expression in the piece that he or she is playing. This is a great feature to have in a keyboard and is not typically found in keyboards of this price.
The YPT-300 still packs all of the features that you expect in Yamaha keyboards like the XGLite Voices, a Sound Effects kit, the Yamaha Education System (Y.E.S.) for learning new songs and teach beginners.
Oh yeah and one other cool feature about the YPT-300 is the lighted key option. If you want, you can have each key light up rep as it is played. This is really great with the Y.E.S. because as it demonstrates a song for you, you can see exactly what keys to play as the song is being played.
